Registering/Transferring (In System) - What You Need to Know
IMPORTANT - Please use the SchoolMint Access Code sent home with your student in order to correctly register your child for the 2017-18 school year. Read Step 2 carefully.
REMEMBER - After you have completed the online forms, you MUST also go to the school to present certain documentation. Please read all instructions below carefully.
Online vs. Paper Registration Forms
Shelby County Schools will be using online registration forms for the upcoming 2017-2018 school year. These online forms can be completed on any Internet-connected device, including smart phones*. Our online forms for returning students will allow parents to confirm or update information that we already have in our system, saving you time. Using the online forms will also mean that your visit to the school to provide proofs of residency and pay fees will take much less time. If you still prefer to use paper forms, please contact your school to ask how to obtain a registration packet.
*The online form website uses standard security encryption, but parents should know that using public Wi-Fi (such as that found in stores and restaurants) is not recommended.
Step 1 – Transfer Only - Check Residency & School Zone
If you are moving within Shelby County and wish to register your child for a school in a different zone than where they attended in 2016-2017, be sure to check that your new residence is zoned for that school before completing registration forms.
The Board of Education has established school attendance zones and students must attend school in the zone in which they reside with a parent or legal guardian. You may view the school attendance areas by using the link listed below. Step 2 - Online Registration Access Code
In the spring of this year, your child will bring home a letter containing an online registration access code. You will use this code the first time you visit our online forms page. There will a separate code for each child. After you initially login to the program, you will be able to set up your own account using an email address or cell phone number and your own password and will not need to use the code in the future. When you are setting up your parent account in SchoolMint, you will see the question "Did you have a student enrolled in Shelby County Schools last year? Choose YES. Then you will be able to enter your child's Access Code. Additionally, by selecting YES you will bypass all new enrolling student forms and move on to the Returning Student forms. You will be able to start, save, and return to the forms to complete them. You will get reminders if you have not completed all forms by their due date. Step 3 - Gather Required Information & Documentation
In order to register a student, you must bring certain required documentation to the school even if you have not moved. See listing below for specific requirements.
Step 4 - Attend Registration Events at School(s)
Click on your child's school link on this page to view detailed information about Summer Registration / Proof of Residence events and plan to attend. To speed up your visit be sure you have completed all of the online registration forms in advance and bring an extra copy of your proofs of residence along with any other required documentation. If you cannot attend the school on one of these dates, please contact the school to arrange another date.
Step 5 - Special Services
If the student needs special services, the parent should notify the school counselor. These may include Gifted Education, an Accommodation Plan, a 504 Plan, English Language Learner services, or Special Education Services
