Subjects you’ll take!

Earth Science: Students will build a working vocabulary and critical thinking skills for use as they investigate topics involving global patterns of atmospheric movement, factors that change Earth’s surface over time, cycles of Earth, Earth’s biomes, Earth’s rotation, tilt and distance from the equator, and relationships among the components of the universe.

How to be a Super Husky in Science: •Don't tolerate the distractions of other students. Direct your attention to receiving and absorbing the information. •Take organized, clear notes. Note taking is how you will gather the information you need to study. Notes provide the major source of information to study for exams. •Be alert and on time. •Ask questions in class when you aren't clear on something. Many have the same questions but are afraid to ask. •Re-read your notes the same day. Make sure that you got everything and didn't miss something important. •Creating note cards is a great strategy to help you study for a test. •Don’t wait until the night before the test to study.

Math The course will challenge and support the development of the student’s mathematical understanding and application of numbers and operations, Algebra, Geometry, measurement, data analysis, and probability. Instruction focuses on problem solving, estimation, and computational fluency of decimals, fractions, percents and proportions. It is based on Common Core Readiness Standards.

How to be a Super Husky in Math: •Have a pencil and paper with you in class EVERY day. •You must complete your homework EVERY night. •You must ask questions EVERY time you feel lost.

Social Studies: Social Studies 6 is the study of the United States from the late 1800s until the present. This course moves through the industrialization of America, and continues the development of our modern society through the study of the societal changes, economy, politics and shifting geography of the twentieth century.

How to be a Super Husky in Social Studies: •Be curious! •We encourage students to ask questions during class as well as bring in any current topic or issue they would like to discuss and possibly make connections to topics we may be discussing in class.

Language Arts: The Language Arts 6th grade course is comprised of reading, language development, writing, listening, speaking, viewing skills; and study skills based on Common Core Readiness Standards. Students will apply reading and comprehension strategies, interpret literary elements and devices, recognize the use of text elements, analyze the text read and identify the author's purpose.

 How to be a Super Husky in Language Arts: •Read independently every day •Bring your library book to class everyday •Be actively engaged in our class novels •Complete book projects on time .•Be ready to learn when you come into our classrooms. •Have a positive attitude and believe that you can be a writer! •Keep all grammar rules and practice handouts organized in your binder as helpful tools and guides. •Be willing to participate orally in class as sentences are classified. •Work cooperatively with class members at all times. •Participate in journal shares and writing prompts so that you will be prepared for those longer writing assignments.
