Principal Mrs. Kathy Paiml

Kathy Paiml

Mrs. Paiml began her career in education in 1996. She has taught at the elementary school level, served as an Adjunct Professor at UAB and was the assistant principal in the Hoover City School System. She received her undergraduate degree in Elementary Education from the University of Memphis, her Master’s Degree in Early Childhood from the University of Alabama at Birmingham, Administration from the University of Montevallo, and her Ed.S Degree in Technology from Lesley University. In 2013, she was awarded the UAB Outstanding Elementary Alumni Award.

Mrs. Paiml is originally from Louisville, KY, but has also lived in Tampa, FL and Memphis, TN. She currently lives in Helena with her husband, Roger and have three grown sons, Brad, Greg and Jeff – all who have attended the University of Alabama. Roll Tide! She enjoys learning new things (especially with technology). While at home, she likes relaxing on her deck with her iPad or professional book or just gazing at the water. Two of her favorite children’s books are Thank You Mr. Faulker and What a Wonderful World.

Holly Laney, Assistant Principal

Mrs. Laney has over ten years of experience as an educator. She received a Bachelor’s degree in Elementary and Collaborative Education from Troy University, a Master’s degree in Teaching from Grand Canyon University, a Master’s degree in Educational Leadership from The University of Alabama at Birmingham. She is currently working on her Ed.S Degree from The University of Alabama at Birmingham in Educational Leadership.

Mrs. Laney is originally from Montgomery, Alabama. She currently resides in Calera with her husband, Blake. They have one son, Boston. In her spare time she enjoys going to Alabama football games, spending time with family and friends, and traveling.

Amanda Hamm, Administrative Assistant

Mrs. Hamm began her teaching career as a kindergarten teacher and has spent the last few years serving as an Instructional Coach for Shelby County Schools. She earned a Bachelor's degree in Early Childhood Special Education from The University of Alabama, a Master's degree in Early Childhood Education from The University of West Alabama, and most recently, an Education Specialist degree in Early Childhood Education from The University of West Alabama. In addition, she received her Instructional Leadership certification from The University of Montevallo.

Mrs. Hamm is originally from Connecticut but now lives in Tuscaloosa with her husband, Jackson, and their Siberian Husky. Mrs. Hamm is a lifelong learner and in her spare time she enjoys spending time with family and traveling (especially to the beach). She is excited to join the wonderful faculty and staff at Helena Intermediate School!
