About the Band Director


     Lance Pruitt is the Band Director of the Helena Middle School Bands.  Mr. Pruitt spent his first 12 years teaching in the Opelika City School system, where he served as Assistant Director for both the middle school and high school bands.  He has been the band director here at Helena Middle School since it opened in the fall of 2008.  Mr. Pruitt received a Bachelor of Science Degree in Accounting in 1991 and a Bachelor of Music Education Degree in 1996, both from Auburn University.  He went on to receive his Master of Science Degree in Music Education from Troy State University in 2000 where he graduated as a member of Phi Kappa Phi Honor Society.  His major instrument is percussion, with which he has performed in both church and secular groups as well as school related bands.

     Bands under Mr. Pruitt's direction have consistently scored well at both District and National Festivals.  His bands have received numerous superior ratings and Best in Class Awards.  In addition, he has also conducted the Samford University Middle School Honor Band.

Mr. Pruitt lives in Helena with his wife, Kelly. He has a son, Conner, step-son, Taylor, and step-daughter Hayden.
