The Career Academy Program is designed to allow
students the opportunity to enroll in a career/technical program and to
remain on the School of Technology campus all day for their academic
instruction. The academic classes are smaller and provide more
one-on-one instruction and attention. The students remain involved with
their home school, which allows the student to participate in
extra-curricular activities and graduate with a regular high school
diploma. The student is required to meet the same standards as
his/her high school. The student must pass the Alabama High School
Graduation Exam (AHSGE), take all required subjects, and have a total of
24 credits (26 for Shelby County High School students) to graduate. The
program provides students with in-depth after high school/life/career
preparation with a "Diploma Plus" concept. This concept guides students
toward the following, after completion of high school:
- Four Year College/University
- Two Year Community College
- Technical School
- Military
- Career Opportunities
(Scholarship opportunities are available through
career/technical classes as well as academic classes.)
Requirements for enrollment:
- Students must be at current grade level
- Student can be a 10th, 11th, or 12th grader
- Student must be enrolled in one of the
eight Shelby County high schools
- Student must complete necessary paperwork,
be interviewed, and accepted into the program.
Transportation:
Bus transportation is provided for students
planning to attend the School of Technology/CAPS Program. Some of the
high schools only provide one-way transportation (see below for your
school's bus schedule). If you attend a school with one-way
transportation, you may catch a ride from another high school or ride
with another student.
If a child chooses to drive, he/she must meet
the following requirements:
- Must pay for parking permit
- Must show proof of insurance and drivers
license

County School Policy)
