About Valley Intermediate

It all began with our roots, Valley Elementary School in Pelham, Alabama. The long established school well known for its excellence and community spirit, had, once again, outgrown its building. To alleviate the overcrowded conditions, the Shelby County School Board built a school that would house the 3rd, 4th and 5th graders. So, Valley Intermediate was born. It opened its doors in August of 2000 with approximately 525 students. We now have approximately 765.
Valley Intermediate School is nestled in the hills outside the entrance of Oak Mountain State Park on Highway 33 in Pelham. Surrounded in beauty and often visited by wild turkey and deer, the school serves all 3rd, 4th and 5th graders living in the Pelham City Limits. The diversity of the students attending the school, including Hispanics and other ESL students, makes the school very special. From the beginning, teachers and staff have promoted the "community of lifelong learners" theme by involving parents and members of the community in the education of the students. Efforts are made to bring the community into the education of the students through the Business Foundation, outreach programs, and community activities that go on at the school. A close association with the mayor and other city officials, as well as Foundation members and parents promotes the safe and nurturing environment we want the school to project. Parents and other adults in the community serve as role models by taking an active role in most everything that goes on at the school.
