The CHMS Administration Team
Principal: Mrs. Caroline Obert
Mrs. Obert has been an educator for over fourteen years in both the middle and the high school settings. Before becoming the Principal of Chelsea Middle School, Mrs. Obert was an Assistant Principal at Oak Mountain Middle School in Shelby County. Prior to returning to Shelby County, she was the Instructional Assistant Principal at Hueytown High School in Jefferson County. As a teacher, she taught and coached at both Thompson High School in Shelby County and Liberty Middle School in Madison City. She has a Bachelor of Arts in English Language Arts from the University of Alabama in Huntsville, a Master of Arts Degree and an Educational Specialist degree from the University of Alabama at Birmingham, and Mrs. Obert is currently pursuing a doctorate with The University of Alabama at Birmingham and The University of Alabama. Mrs. Obert was raised in Belle Harbor, Queens, NY, and moved to Alabama to attend Virgil I. Grissom High School in Huntsville, AL. She is married to David Obert, a native to Shelby County, who is a Neuroradiologist at UAB. Dr. and Mrs. Obert have one daughter, Madeline and a son on the way.
Assistant Principal: Dr. Deborah Scarbrough
Dr. Deborah A. Scarbrough received her Bachelor of Science, Reading, Special Education, and Master’s degrees from the University of Tennessee. She continued her education with degrees in supervision and administration and a doctorate in Leadership and Professional Practices. Dr. Scarbrough served as an elementary teacher for 23 years, an elementary Assistant Principal for one year, an Elementary Principal for 17 years, and is presently serving her seventh year at Chelsea Middle School as an Assistant Principal. Dr. Scarbrough taught courses at the college and university levels and also taught graduate students in the college of education. Dr. Scarbrough grew up in Chattanooga and Memphis Tennessee. She is married to Ken Scarbrough. The Scarbroughs are very proud of their family of two daughters, two sons-in-law, three grandsons, and one granddaughter.
Assistant Principal:Ken Thornbrough
Mr. Thornbrough has been an educator with Shelby County Schools over sixteen years. He served as a science teacher at Chelsea Middle for fourteen years before becoming the Administrative Assistant at Chelsea High School in 2018. Mr Thornbrough has served as a baseball coach at both the middle and high school levels. He received his Bachelor of Science in Environmental Geographical Information Systems from Samford University, a Master of Education in Secondary Science Education and an Education Specialist degree in Education Leadership, both from the University of Montevallo. Mr Thornbrough is currently pursuing a doctorate in Education Leadership from Samford University. Since 2009, he has been an adjunct professor at the University of Montevallo teaching both undergraduate and graduate courses. He is married to Christie and has two children, Harper and Caroline.

The Chelsea Middle School adminstrative team is available to meet with
parents to answer questions and to address concerns. If you would like to
schedule a conference or if you would like to speak one of the
administrators by phone, please call the school office at
682-7210. Please provide a telephone number at which you can
be reached if circumstances prevent an immediate response to
your call. The administrative team will try to respond to
questions on the same school day and certainly within 24 hours.
