Biomedical Science

GOAL

To equip students with the employability and technical skills required for employment and/or advanced training in the growing field of biomedical science where they will study the concepts of human medicine, physiology, genetics, microbiology, and public health.

PROGRAM OVERVIEW

The Career Technical Educational Center offers a simulated work experience for students interested in investigating the roles of biomedical professionals. Students are given the opportunity to prepare for Biomedical Science careers through various means: rigorous curriculum, simulated lab experiences, guest speakers, hands-on activities, community service/ leadership opportunities and job shadowing at local healthcare and lab facilities. Students engage in activities like investigating the death of a fictional person to learn content in the context of real-world cases. They examine the structures and interactions of human body systems and explore the prevention, diagnosis, and treatment of disease, all while working collaboratively to understand and design solutions to the most pressing health challenges of today and the future.Through a comprehensive program, students work toward becoming college and career ready in a high demand career field. Biomedical Science students have the opportunity to further their knowledge and skills by participating in state and national leadership conferences through HOSA. Students are eligible to obtain nationally recognized industry credentials by completing standardized tests successfully. Are you interested in making a difference in the lives of others? ARTICULATED COLLEGE CREDITS

There are no articulation credit agreements in place for this program at this time but some community colleges are becoming more flexible in taking classes or credentials for credit.
