Principal: April Brand

Ms BrandMs. Brand has over 20 years of experience in education. Over the course of her teaching career she has served as both an instructional coach and science teacher, as well as coached numerous girls’ athletic teams. Prior to joining the administrative staff of Helena High School, Ms. Brand served as assistant principal at Oak Mountain High School. Prior to moving into school administration, Ms. Brand served as a science teacher at Homewood High School. Ms. Brand earned both her Bachelor’s and Master’s Degree in Secondary Education from Jacksonville State University. She completed her certification in Educational Administration and her Educational Specialist Degree in Instructional Leadership from Samford University. Currently, she is enrolled at UAB pursuing her doctorate in Educational Leadership. Ms. Brand is passionate about young people and dedicated to preparing them for the future. She is excited to be a part of the staff at Helena High School and establishing the foundation for excellence.

Assistant Principal: David Butts

Mr. Butts Mr. Butts has over 15 years experience in public education. Before joining the Helena High team, he served as the Coordinator of the Comeback Academy at Thomasville High School. Mr. Butts earned a Bachelor’s degree in Physical Education from Faulkner University and a Master’s degree in Educational Leadership and Administration from the University of West Alabama.

Assistant Principal: Jennifer Lowe

Ms LoweMs. Lowe has over 10 years experience in public education and currently serves as a Spanish teacher at Helena High School. Ms. Lowe earned a Bachelor’s degree in Secondary Education and Spanish, along with a Master’s degree in Foreign Language Education at Auburn University. She completed her degree in Instructional Leadership at the University of Montevallo.


Administrative Assistant: Jeremy Reed

Mr. ReedMr. Reed has spent six years working in education. He earned his Bachelor's degree in Accounting from the University of Alabama and worked in that field prior to moving into education. Mr. Reed obtained a Master's degree in Education from the University of Alabama at Birmingham and has taught in Helena for five years. He is currently pursuing an Instructional Leadership degree at the University of West Alabama.
