Principal Celita Carmichael
Originally from Northport, Alabama, I attended grades K-10 in the Northport district. Completing my secondary education at Vestavia High School near Birmingham, I attended Oxford University in U.K. and earned a Bachelor’s degree from UAB. After 14 years of a successful career in the corporate sector, I found myself unfulfilled, and drawn toward what I would discover would be my passion…the love of children and their education. So while still running a school supply company, I earned a Masters of Education Administrative degree from Samford University. Having taught seven years as a teacher, I became the Assistant Principal at Inverness Elementary, then Principal at Calera Elementary, and now at Mt. Laurel Elementary. I consider myself blessed to have had the pleasure of working alongside, and creating relationships with the faculty, staff, parents and students of these schools. I look forward to tackling the challenges that lie ahead, and celebrating the victories with those for whom I care the most…the kids. It’s all about the kids..
Assistant Principal Tina Neighbors
I am honored to serve as assistant principal at Mt Laurel Elementary School. I received a Bachelor’s degree from Auburn University at Montgomery, a Masters degree from Troy State at Montgomery, and an Administrative Certification from the University of Alabama at Birmingham. During my ten years of teaching, I taught fifth and sixth grades in Alexander City, Alabama. In 2004, my family and I moved to the Chelsea community where I began teaching fifth grade at Mt Laurel. When the school transitioned from a K-5 to a K-3 school, I decided to remain at MLES and teach first grade. In 2008, I became the assistant principal at Mt Laurel and have thoroughly enjoyed my experience. I am thrilled that MLES is now a K-5 school again and look forward to working with all of our wonderful students and parents this year. I feel very fortunate to be a part of such an exceptional and supportive community.
