Genet Holcomb

Principal

Mrs. Holcomb has 28 years of experience in education. During her career she has been a special education teacher, a Reading Recovery teacher, a Title I reading and math teacher, as well as a second and third grade classroom teacher. Mrs. Holcomb served as assistant principal of Inverness Elementary and as assistant principal at Helena Intermediate, and most recently, as principal at Calera Elementary school.

Mrs. Holcomb earned her Education Specialist degree from Samford University in 1999. She holds a Master's degree in Educational Administration, also from Samford University. Mrs. Holcomb earned a Master's degree and a Bachelor's degree in elementary education from the University of Montevallo.

April Maner

April Maner

Assistant Principal

April Maner has served in Shelby County Schools for thirteen years. She began her career at Calera Elementary School as a kindergarten teacher and first-grade teacher. She most recently served as a Local Reading Specialist for the district and as an administrative assistant for Helena Elementary. April has a bachelor’s degree in Human Environmental Sciences from the University of Alabama, a master's degree in Elementary Education, a certification in Instructional Leadership, and most recently an Education Specialist degree in Instructional Technology from the University of Montevallo.

Administrative Assistant

Jessica Cummings has served in Shelby County Schools for fifteen years.  She began her career at Chelsea Park as a Kindergarten teacher and joined the Kindergarten team at Helena Elementary in 2020.  Currently, she serves as the Administrative Assistant at Helena Elementary.  She has a Bachelor’s degree in Elementary Education from the University of Montevallo and is currently working on a Master’s degree in Instructional Leadership from the University of Montevallo.

Our administrators seek to respond to questions on the same school day and certainly within 24 hours.
