Cynthia Cruce, Principal

Mrs. Cruce has been an educator for 29 years. Her education career includes serving as assistant principal at CHMS from 2006 - 2012 and as assistant principal at OMMS from 2012 - 2021.  She has a bachelor’s degree in communications and a master’s degree in secondary education from the University of Alabama. She completed her administrative certification and her education specialist degree from the University of Montevallo.

Ken Thornbrough

Ken Thornbrough, Assistant Principal

Mr. Thornbrough has been an educator with Shelby County Schools over sixteen years. He served as a science teacher at Chelsea Middle for fourteen years before becoming the Administrative Assistant at Chelsea High School in 2018. Mr Thornbrough has served as a baseball coach at both the middle and high school levels. He received his Bachelor of Science in Environmental Geographical Information Systems from Samford University, a Master of Education in Secondary Science Education and an Education Specialist degree in Education Leadership, both from the University of Montevallo. Mr Thornbrough is currently pursuing a doctorate in Education Leadership from Samford University. Since 2009, he has been an adjunct professor at the University of Montevallo teaching both undergraduate and graduate courses. He is married to Christie and has two children, Harper and Caroline.

Christopher Self

Christopher Self, Assistant Principal

Christopher Self  previously served at CMS as an administrative assistant. Self has over eight years of experience in public education. He holds a bachelor’s degree in Finance and Economics from the University of Alabama, a master’s degree in Collaborative Education from the University of Alabama at Birmingham, and an Educational Specialist degree from the University of Montevallo.

The Chelsea Middle School adminstrative team is available to meet with parents to answer questions and to address concerns. If you would like to schedule a conference or if you would like to speak one of the administrators by phone, please call the school office at 682-7210. Please provide a telephone number at which you can be reached if circumstances prevent an immediate response to your call. The administrative team will try to respond to questions on the same school day and certainly within 24 hours.
