Calera High School

The Guidance Dept is excited to announce the college campus tours for Alabama A&M University as well as the University of South Alabama. The Alabama A&M tour is scheduled for January 24th and the University of South Alabama tour is scheduled for March 6th. The tours are open to juniors and seniors in good standing who have a minimum GPA of at least 2.0. The cost for these trips is $50.00 per student which will cover transportation and lunch on campus. Students can see Mr. Riggins for permission slips.

All Shelby County Schools will resume normal operations on Thursday, January 18. We are excited to welcome our students and staff back!

Shelby County Schools will remain closed on Wednesday, January 17 due to winter weather conditions, including the forecast of a hard freeze overnight. There are still areas of the county experiencing icy road conditions that are not likely to improve until temperatures rise above freezing midday on Wednesday. We anticipate being back to a normal school schedule on Thursday.

Attached is the SENIOR AD form. The deadline to purchase is 2/23/2024. If you would like your baby picture to be included in the yearbook and/or used for other senior events, email a copy of your baby picture to twhitt@shelbyed.org by 2/924 or bring a picture by Room B116 to be scanned.

Prom 2024

Due to the threat of winter weather and extreme temperatures, all Shelby County Schools will be closed on Tuesday, January 16, and students will transition to remote learning. All after-school activities are also canceled. We are also monitoring the weather for Wednesday morning and will announce school delays or closures as we receive more detailed weather information.

Due to the threat of severe weather, specifically straight-line winds causing downed trees and powerlines on Friday, January 12, all Shelby County Schools will be closed and students will transition to remote learning. All after-school activities are also canceled. Schools will be closed on Monday, January 15 for the Martin Luther King, Jr. Holiday. We are also monitoring the weather for Tuesday morning and will announce school delays or closures as we receive more detailed weather information.

We regret to inform you that the Mr. & Miss Winter CHS pageant is canceled due to lack of participation. If you have registered for the pageant, please see Nurse Walker to have your packet and money returned as soon as possible. If you have any questions please feel free to contact Nurse Walker or Dr. Bright. Thank you!

Calera High School went into secure perimeter protocols today due to an incident that was occurring in the community near the school. Staff secured the areas for which they were responsible and students stayed inside until law enforcement gave the all-clear. The secure perimeter was out of precaution and students and staff were not in danger. The safety of our students and staff is always our top priority. We appreciate the partnership with the Calera Police Department and their clear communication during this incident.

EXTENDED!! The registration deadline for the Mr. & Miss Winter CHS pageant has been extended to Tuesday, November 7th!

Seniors and Senior Parents, We are very excited that CaHS will be hosting several guests from our community who will be participating as interviewers for our senior mock interviews, which are scheduled for this Thursday, November 9th. Seniors who have Dr. Rees or Mrs. McAdams have been working on their resumes, which they will share with our guests. This is an important event that provides an opportunity for students to learn from professionals how to polish their resumes and their interview skills in order to land that job, scholarship, or academic opportunity they really want. This will count as an important grade in their English classes, and it is very important that they are prepared. Please encourage your student to dress professionally Thursday, and to arrive to school on time.

Bus 18-42 will not run today. Students will ride 18-41 and will leave the school at 3:30. Bus 23-39 will not run today. Students will ride 23-38 and will leave the school at 3:45.

Choir and Theatre Students are raising money to go to Dollywood! Our Cherrydale Fundraiser offers great gifts for the holidays. Find a choir or theatre member before November 9th to order! Online ordering ships straight to your home!

Theatre students had their competition piece evaluated by University of Montevallo theatre professor Bart Pitchford on Sunday. He shared some great feedback with our students about creating believable characters and dialogue! Don't miss The Haunted Carousel TONIGHT at 6:30PM
