On November 7th, we hosted a group of Veterans, that were invited by their students, to participate in an intimate celebration at our school. The band and choir held a concert for the Veterans and their families, FCCLA students served our guests breakfast, and FBLA students organized the program and video tribute. We are so proud of our kids for working so hard to make this event memorable for our Veterans! Thank you for your service!

Mrs. J.Lee's FACS classes closed out the month of October with their Halloween Wars Cupcake Challenge! Students collaborated with one another, sketched out their designs, and brought them to life by baking their recipes and painting their displays. They did a great job!

In October, our 8th grade classes in FACS, Digital Medial, and Build It Better attended the Worlds of Work Career Expo. It was exciting to see our students experience possible career options from businesses in our area!
6th graders learned how to collaborate in groups using vertical thinking boards. The task: “What’s Going On?” from the New York Times online activity.
We will take collaboration and moving over a boring test any day! 8th grade ELA completed their first Question Trail after listening to An Interview with a Spider to work on ACAP-style questions. We worked with groups members, members from other ELA classes, and even a Vice Principal!

Hispanic Heritage Month has just ended, but we want to highlight some of the amazing things that have been happening around our school... Each day, students have been doing the Pledge of Allegiance in Spanish. Students have also been highlighting different countries each day over the announcements. Mi Pueblo Supermarket sponsored our door decorating contest, and gave winning teachers a $50 gift card to any of their locations. The class period that decorated their doors also received goodie bags with Hispanic candy. We have had a great month at Calera Middle School!

Mrs. Justice's class is transforming the school hallways with their spooky perspective drawings! Using one-point perspective, students are creating eerie renditions of the hallways, inspired by surreal artists like Salvador Dalí. Get ready to be spooked by their imaginative and surreal masterpieces!
October means it is SPOOKY SEASON. 8th grade ELA kicked off the month with Spooky Stories by the Campfire featuring Edgar Allan Poe’s The Tell Tale Heart. We even got creative with choosing the “flame” that had vocabulary words to find!
