Student Services Welcome Back Letter

Welcome back to what we believe will be an amazing 23-24 school year. We are excited about this school year and opportunities for new learning and experiences that will help our young people grow. The Student Services team has been working diligently in the planning and preparation for our areas of responsibility. Our first priority will always be on safety and providing a safe and secure environment for our students and staff. We are so thankful for our school resource officers and the partnership we have with the local municipalities and the Shelby County Sheriff’s Office. Another focus this year will be on student attendance, because every school day counts and every minute matters. We all know that missing school is missing out. Our chronic absenteeism rates are higher than we would like and we are asking for your help in making sure that your child is in attendance daily, unless there is an illness that warrants your child to stay at home. Chronic absenteeism is defined as missing at least 10 percent of the school year, which in our case is 18 days of school, and includes both excused and unexcused absences. Our third priority will be on building community partner relationships, especially with our parents/legal guardians. We realize that your local school handles most of the communication, but we want to take advantage of opportunities to bring your attention to information that is pertinent to our students, staff, and school system. Thank you in advance for partnering with Shelby County Schools. Working together, our students and staff can do great things!
